Express and Echo – November 18, 2015

THIS musical by Exeter Musical Society tells the story of Tevye, a poor Jewish milkman living in Anatevka, Russia in 1905. He has five daughters and he tries to arrange marriages for the eldest three, but they have their own ideas on who they want to marry.

You see them meet the men they want to marry but they have a hard time trying to get their fathers permission and approval.

Tevye is a very traditional man and is constantly comparing how things should be done to the way they want to be changed to now.

We see the poverty and hardship of the village people and the Russians expel the Jewish people from their homes and they are forced to move away.

This is a spectacular show with favourite songs of If I Were a Rich Man and Tradition. Tevye captivated the audience with his brilliant acting and singing. Yente had everyone laughing at her matchmaking plans even if they were a bit misguided!

This is a great show full of energy, dancing and wonderful singing. One minute you are laughing and the next sombre as the story unfolds. Don’t miss this well known show!
