Review: Guys and Dolls at Exeter Northcott Theatre
Having never seen the musical, Guys and Dolls, I did not know what to expect. At the Northcott Theatre last night, Exeter Musical Society, put on another great show.
With a strong cast and professional performances, the stage was set for New York in the 1950’s . The many characters are brought to life with beautiful vintage costumes and smart choreography. These included, gangsters, Hot Box girls, a mission band and an endearing performance by Wally Cotgrave as Arvide Abernathy, making this show a must see.
With so many strong performances, it would be impossible to name them all, but I loved the relationship between Nathan and Adelaide, played by Elaine and Martin. J Kingston with their great comedy timing. James Billington also gives a strong performance as Sky Masterton, in his pursuit of love with Sarah Brown (Emma Williams), their voices complimented each other beautifully – she makes a great drunk and I’m still humming ‘Luck Be a Lady’. You do not want to miss David Finlay as Nicely-nicely Johnson lifts the roof with ‘Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat’.
Congratulations to the cast and production team. It was so colourful, energetic and fun. I thoroughly enjoyed it and you will too.
